About Us

We Don’t Blow Smoke

October Strategies seeks out clients who are looking to take the next evolutionary steps forward in their businesses. Clients who are ready to take a serious look at their current state and are committed to moving the needle. Clients who accept the premise that communications doesn’t work in a vacuum and are comfortable with bold, original ideas and concepts. In other words, October Strategies isn’t for everyone. And that’s OK.

Our History & Approach

Past Experience but Forward Thinking

Representing years of skill, knowledge and hard-won experience, Lela Cocoros and LaRae Marsik founded October Strategies in 2000, intent on building a company that helps clients advance their business goals through first-rate communications strategies and tactics. Having worked on the client side in corporate communications, Lela and LaRae understand clients’ individual needs, dynamics and realities. So October Strategies’ approach is always straightforward, inclusive and customized. We dig deep, ask insightful questions and work closely with our clients to create and execute effective communications, taking into account all audiences and perspectives in the process.

That’s why in 2002, the Denver Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce named October Strategies one of three finalists for its “Emerging Business of the Year” award – and was the only client services company of the three. In 2004, October Strategies was again named a finalist in the same competition.

The October Strategies team of communications professionals provides innovative and effective work in public relations, business and leadership counsel, marketing programs, premiums and incentives and special events. Our company works locally, nationally and internationally and brings a broad array of experiences, creativity, talent and commitment to projects and clients of all types and sizes.

Our name

We Know You’re Curious

Everybody asks, so here’s the answer.

Actually, it started, as most naming assignments do, with a massive brainstorming session. October Strategies’ founders wanted a name that would be both personal AND would have significance regarding the company’s professional expertise and focus.

The “strategy” element needed to be emphasized, and October symbolizes many things – summer is over, and October is the time when people hunker down and get into a planning mode:

  • October is budget season for many companies, a time to plan activities and establish business goals for the coming year
  • October is the time to prepare for the cold winter ahead – strategizing and planning to ensure the most effective outcome

Lela and LaRae were both born in October and have always enjoyed the color and excitement of the season, so that capped it!

Besides, the name was catchy and intriguing enough to get people’s attention – like yours.
